White House Fellows
It’s been a good week. I found out I was appointed to be a part of the 2009-2010 Class of White House Fellows on Thursday and I have been receiving so many kind messages from loved ones all weekend. (To learn more please check out the official press release.)
I am excited about moving to D.C. and being a part of a historic administration. I plan on soaking up all I can regarding how policy change works and listening in on as many conversations as I can find myself in. Will keep you posted on all I learn.
In the meantime, there is a great Gordon Parks quote I will leave you with:

I am an Ethiopian- American public health physician that is using oral histories to teach about health. I have been listening to stories as a public health practitioner for a long time and as a physician for the past six years. In medicine, there is a true moral compass that points north. WWJD is right, the bridge needs to be adjusted. On every string instrument that has a bridge, it’s the bridge that transfers physical energy in order to increase and prolong the instrument’s resonance. So when you pluck a string it makes a sound and creates some resonance in the sound board without the bridge’s help. But the bridge helps prolong the note by transferring from the bridge to the sounding board. The bridge creates a longer vibration on the sounding board and that is why it rings when you hit it hard. When you pluck it gently, the bridge doesn’t come into effect as much as when you pluck it strongly.

The smell was probably from the oven cleaner previously used to clean the the inside of the oven. If yours isn’t a self-cleanigg oven, the cleaner is needed to dissolve the baked on food that can’t otherwise be removed. It’s nothing to be concerned about so long as it’s properly cleaned out before using the oven to prepare food. Some soapy hot water and a cloth should remove the smell of the cleaner. And remember to rinse it well with clean water afterwards.
